ORANGE NEW SPONSOR OF AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS
UK Mobile Operator Orange has confirmed to sportsmarketing.ie that they will be associating its name to the main competitions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). In particular, CAF’s flagship competition will now be known as Orange Africa Cup of Nations.
For the next eight years Orange is to be the new media partner of African football in Africa.

For the next four years Orange will also be the major broadcaster of African football in France with both TV and mobile rights

Following the call for tenders organised by Sportfive on behalf of the Confederation of African Football, Orange is the new official partner for African football and the new media broadcaster of competitions organised on the continent through mobile offers in 55 African countries as well as on Orange sport in France.

At the same time, Orange will be the main partner of CAF’s major competitions, via an agreement which will run for the next eight years.

The agreement will enable Orange to forge ahead with its content strategy, while developing its brand awareness and brand vision in Africa and in the main European markets.

the CAF competitions in question are
- Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) – every two years
- African Nations Championship (CHAN) – every two years
- African Youth Championship (U-20) – every two years
- CAF Champions League – every year
- Confederation Cup – every year
- CAF Super Cup – every year

Orange is delighted with this partnership, which will begin in July 2009 with the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, followed by the next Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in January 2010.

CAF chose Orange because of its dominant role in the field of African sport and its technical expertise.

Orange has for many years been a leading player in the development of African football and is active in numerous African countries in the fixed, mobile and internet markets and is already a sponsor of the national teams of Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Senegal, Guinea and Botswana. Orange is also heavily involved in local sponsorship of football and youth activities.
