WIGGINS JOINS TEAM SKY

Speculation about Bradley Wiggins’ professional cycling future has come to an end with the news he is to join newly-formed Team Sky, SPORTSMARKETING.IE has learned. The triple Olympic gold medalist confirmed he would be joining the British run road team at a press conference in London. Wiggins, 29, who is currently under contract with Team Garmin-Transitions, has long been linked with a move to the BSkyB-backed outfit. The team, which is led by British Cycling performance director Dave Brailsford, is to launch at January’s Tour Down Under. Talk of Wiggins signing for Team Sky has been rife since his phenomenal fourth-place finish in the Tour de France in July. The announcement came as the International Olympic Committee prepared to unveil changes to the track programme ahead of the London 2012 Games. Under proposed changes Wiggins and Rebecca Romero would not be able to defend their individual pursuit crowns. More follows…
